Uncle Davey's Fragmentia - Advertising Ratecard

The idea of Fragmentia is to make a digest of the best fragments of the posts I have made to Usenet, whether ideas, soundbites, jokes and witticisms, observations, coinages, or even some typical Usenet "flames". The inclusion criteria are that the extracts work without a lot of context and that either the use of language or the idea has some originality. All work is mine unless otherwise stated, and, with few exceptions, first written to Usenet in the month given below each fragment. Where of interest, I have also given the person addressed. To see the original content, use Google's Usenet archive searching on the most unusual phrase in the section and limiting it to the stated month. Some of these comments were answered - even on occasion very competently - and looking up the thread will show you what they said. Unlike other parts of my site, which have no paid advertising, if you want to advertise next to an item, let me know, the rates are given below. Proceeds will used entirely towards site upkeep and expansion. As ever, with my productions, the right of reply exists on the bulletin board. The fragments are not sorted, so a certain amount of disjointedness is part of the fun, but as you sequentially peruse each "Dectave of Uncle Dave", you'll soon start to pick up the threads.

Advertising in the Fragmentia pages is most effective for items being promoted that would interest people searching on the unusual words or keywords appearing in the relevant Fragment. Each page of Fragmentia is written so that the metatags include all the keywords, in a way compliant with the major search engines, and the chances of getting hits from people interested in products having relevance to those unusual words or keywords is much higher than average. The site in general is continually promoted using usenet and online newspaper forums and has better than average traffic for a site of its size. Detailed traffic stats are available if needed, but you can see the basic history of the site's traffic on the homepage.

The income form adverts is going to be applied to support the running of the site. There are also Amazon bookbuttons at the side of pages, which, if clicked, will accrue to book tokens, which I will use for good causes. This is not a venture by way of trade, but a way to reduce the costs to me of providing this service. I wouldn't even consider for a second giving up the day job.

Each Fragment can have a maximum of 1 advert, either a button or a banner. It is first come, first served, and purchasers will have first right of refusal on the extension of the ad in that position, if wished. An advertiser can have up to three ads per page.

The basic rate is 0.5 EUR per button or 1 EUR per banner per month, with a minimum order level of 5 dollars. There are discounts for larger orders, making them better value for money than the small orders.

You do all the artwork, and send me the finished button and/or banner with the link. It will appear next to the chosen fragment item for at least the time period paid.

The payment is up front, by Paypal or by UK cheque, and refundable only if the site fails, not if you change your mind. I will however remove ads before the period expires if requested to.

If you need to pay in other currencies, we assume 1 Euro is 1.1 dollars or 70 UK pence. If that seems too far off-beam by the time you make the order - because the exchange rates are fluctuating all the time - then talk to me.

I reserve the right to refuse advertising if I disagree with its content, personally dislike the product or service, or I have reason to believe that the advert is made by a disreputable party. I'm not responsible, though, if an advertiser fails to live up to their obligations. Caveat emptor.

If you have information about an advertisor on this site not playing by the usual rules, summed up in the UK as "legal, decent, honest and truthful", or has let you down, then let me know, and I will investigate it.
